HENRY C. WALLACE
The politician signs a letter, regretfully declining an invitation to attend a dinner in honor of Herbert Quick
Typed Letter signed: "Henry C Wallace" as Secretary of Agriculture, 1p, 7x9. Washington, D.C., October 8, 1923. On official letterhead to John M. Stahl, President, Allied Arts Association, Chicago, Illinois. In full: "Thank you very much for your invitation to attend the dinner in honor of Herbert Quick on the evening of October 20. I should like to be present but regret that matters requiring my presence here will prevent my being with you. I am very sorry. Very truly yours." Henry Cantwell Wallace (1866-1924) succeeded his father as editor of the "Wallace's Farmer" magazine. He served as Secretary of Agriculture (1921-1924) under Presidents Harding and Coolidge. His son, Henry Agard Wallace (1888-1965) followed in his footsteps to a point, assuming editorship of the family journal and then serving as Secretary of Agriculture (1933-1940). Henry A. Wallace was Vice President in FDR's third term (1941-1945) and mounted a bid for President as nominee of the Progressive Party (1948). Pinhead sized spot in left margin. Fine condition.
