FLETCHER BOWRON
His signature next to his image on the program of a tribute dinner in his honor
Program signed: "Fletcher Bowron", 7x9. Undated program for a tribute dinner in his honor at Los Angeles City Hall, signed next to his image on verso. Fletcher Bowron (1887-1968), a veteran of World War I, served California as Deputy Corporate Commissioner, Executive Secretary to Governor Friend Richardson, and state superior court judge, before being elected to four terms as Mayor of Los Angeles. A reformer, he curbed corrupt practices in the mayor's office and city police department. Defeated in a bid for a fifth term, he returned to the Superior Court, by election this time, in 1956. After leaving the court, he served Los Angeles on its history and zoning commissions until his death. Paper and adhesive residue (previous mounting) on verso, light show-through at top corners. Two nicks at right edge. Lightly soiled and creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
