Walter F. Mondale sends a typed letter of thanks for participating in the conference.
Typed Letter signed: "Fritz", 1p, 8½x11. On letterhead of Dorsey & Whitman. Minneapolis, Minnesota, 1989 January 26. To Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Washington, D.C. In full: "Thank you so much for agreeing to participate in the Research-Cottrell sponsored acid rain conference to be held on Capitol Hill during the day of April 10, 1989. You will be hearing from Mr. Henry Beale about the details. If you have any questions about arrangements, would you please contact either me or Mr. Henry Beale at [phone number]With best wishes.". Mondale served as U.S. Senator from Minnesota succeeding Hubert H. Humphrey who had resigned to become LBJ's Vice President. Mondale resigned as Senator to become Carter's Vice President (1977-1981). He was the unsuccessful Democratic candidate for Vice President in 1980 and for President in 1984, losing to President Reagan, 525-13 electoral votes. He later served as U.S. Ambassador to Japan (1993-1996). In 2002, Mondale was re-nominated for the U.S. Senate after incumbent Paul Wellstone was killed in a plane crash, but he lost the election. DIRECTLY FROM THE SALE OF THE ESTATE OF DANIEL PATRICK MOYNIHAN. Moynihan (1927-2003) represented New York in the U.S. Senate as a Democrat for four terms (1977-2001). A prolific author, he served in the administrations of four Presidents: Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford". Date of conference circled (unknown hand). Ink note in upper right. Staple holes in upper left. Horizontal fold crosses "F" in signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
