Rare Photograph signed:
"Easter 1941 Heartfelt!/Eva" in German. B/w, 7x5. Vintage photograph. On verso, ANS: "Eva". Berghof, 1941 April 3. To "Dear Traudl". In German, translated. In full: "To you and your parents, the most heartfelt Easter Greetings". From 1936, Braun spent much of her time at Berghof, Hitler's retreat in the Obersalzberg in southern Bavaria, where she served as his hostess. EVA BRAUN (1912-1945) first met Adolph Hitler in 1929 at the studio of his friend, photographer Heinrich Hoffman (who took photographs of Berghof as well as the future Führer). An office assistant at the time, Braun later became a photo laboratory worker and helped process photographs of Hitler, whom she had described as "a gentleman of a certain age with a funny moustache and carrying a big felt hat" at the time of their first meeting. Braun became Hitler's mistress in 1932, but lived a relatively isolated life. The two were rarely seen together and few Germans even knew of her existence (even some of Hitler's intimates were unsure about the nature of their relationship). In April 1945, Braun joined Hitler in his Füherbunker in Berlin. As the Russians were closing in the city, Hitler begged her to leave, but Braun refused. The couple was married on April 29, 1945, the day before Braun committed suicide by taking poison; Hitler ended his own life two hours later. At Hitler's request, the bodies were cremated in Reich Chancellery Garden above the bunker, where Braun's charred body was later found by the Russians. GERTRAUD "TRAUDL" JUNGE succeeded Gerda Christian as Hitler's personal secretary. Serving from 1943-1945, she typed up the Führer's last will and testament. Junge died in Munich in 2002 at the age of 81. Verso is lightly soiled, pinhead-size stain at lower blank margin. Pencil note (unknown hand) at lower right margin. Fine condition.
