JACK BROOKS
 He signs a small 3½x2 card as a Member of Congress
 Signature: "Jack Brooks/M.C. 9th Dist/Texas", 3½x2 card. Jack Brooks (1922-2012) represented Texas in the US House of Representatives for 42 years (1953-1995). Brooks chaired the House Committee on Government Operations (1975-1988) and the Judiciary Committee (1989-1995). Conservative on many issues, Brooks was an early southern supporter of civil rights legislation, sponsoring the 1964 Civil Rights Act. His support for the federal assault weapons ban contributed to his defeat in 1994, when he became the most senior Congressional incumbent ever to be defeated in a general election. Brooks was in the Presidential motorcade in Dallas on November 22, 1963, when President Kennedy was assassinated. He was aboard Air Force One on the return trip to Washington, when fellow Texan Lyndon Johnson took the Presidential oath. Brooks represented Texas' 9th Congressional District from 1965 to 1995. For his first 12 years in Congress, he represented the 2nd District. Fine condition.
