NANCY REAGAN
Mrs. Reagan answers an admires request about autographing her book Nancy
Typed Letter Signed: "Nancy Reagan", 1p, 7¼x10½. Pacific Palisades, 1980 June 12. To Mr. Stanhope. In full: "It was a pleasure to receive your recent letter and request to autograph a copy of 'Nancy". Please send your copy of the book to my office at 981 Airport Boulevard, Suite 1430, Los Angeles, California 90045, and I shall be happy to honor your request. I hope you will enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Thank you for your good wishes. Sincerely,." NANCY DAVIS, a 27-year-old actress at MGM, began receiving Communist Party propaganda in 1950 during the Red scare in Hollywood. She consulted with director Mervyn LeRoy, who spoke with Screen Actors Guild President RONALD REAGAN about the problem. Reagan, 39-years-old and recently divorced, met with Davis at dinner and told her that there were five actresses named Nancy Davis and that the union would stand behind her if she were accused of being a Communist. On March 4, 1952, the couple was married in the Little Brown Church in North Hollywood, California. The Reagans appeared together in one film, Hellcats of the Navy (1957), before Nancy retired from films to devote her time to her husband and children: Patti, born in 1952, and Ronald, born in 1958. Nancy, who was First Lady of California from 1967-1975, is remembered for the great style she brought to the White House as First Lady (1981-1989) as well as for launching the "Just Say No" program for a drug-free America for children and adults alike. She took care of her husband from the time he disclosed he had Alzheimer's disease in 1995 until his death in 2004 (the couple was married for over 52 years at the time). Mrs. Reagan was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2002. Fold creases not at signature. Fine condition.
