ANNE (ANNE E. MITCHELL) SHOLTER - AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED 10/05/1989 - DOCUMENT 301423

ANNE SHOLTER (ANNE E. MITCHELL)
"The Minature Lana Turner" fondly recalls her show business career.
Autograph Letter signed: "Anne E. Mitchell", 1 page, 8¾x8½. Sarasota, Florida, 1989 October 5. To David Michaels, in full: "Thank you for your letter. I believe the most exciting experience was the film 'It's a Small World' I appeared in with Paul Dale, Steve Brodie, Will Geer, Nina Koshotz. Released 1950. Eagle Lion. I was quite young 18 when the film was made. But the most fun I had was when I appeared at Conrad Hilton Hotel in Chicago in the Boulevard Room. The Ice Revue was 'Skating Memories'. I opened the show - by setting the plot for the Ice Revue, playing the little girl with the grandma and grandpa reminiscing of their days in show business in an ice show. This was a very good show and we all made many friends. Also appeared in night clubs & theatres and the Revue of Little People musical. Traveling was quite an education. Sincerely". Canadian- born Anne Sholter (b. circa 1932), who has signed here under her married name of Anne E. Mitchell, was a member of Nate Eagle's Hollywood Midget Movie Stars. Eagle had employed 160 persons at his peak in the 1930s, although only 15 remained by 1950. Sholter, a beautiful blonde known as "the Miniature Lana Turner", starred in only one film, It's a Small World (1950), as noted here. Directed by William Castle, later known for his horror movies, Small World is considered an exploitation film by some, but obviously not by Sholter. She plays the woman who convinces another little person, Paul Dale (of Harry Kramer's Hollywood Midgets), to set aside bitterness and criminal friends and make a career in the circus. Sholter and Dottie Williams, another member of Nate Eagle's company, appeared on Arlene Francis' talk show Home in 1956. As described in this letter, she found other outlets for her talent, including night club shows and ice revues. Sholter married Frank "Cookie" Cucksey in 1950; they settled in Sarasota in the 1960s, where Cucksey worked at the Ringling Circus Museum. Many members of Nate Eagle's troupe settled in Sarasota. Cucksey died in 1984; Sholter apparently remarried. Right edge irregularly cut. Otherwise, fine condition.
