STELLA PARTON
Black and white publicity photogrpah of Stella Parton smiling.
Photograph signed: "Love ya/Stella/Parton". B/w, 8x9¾ overall, image 7¼x8 (one surface). Stella Parton, born in 1949, is the younger sister of country star Dolly Parton and a country singer and actor in her own right. She first sang on a TV at age seven with Dolly on a Knoxville, Tennessee TV show and debuted on radio at age nine. Stella and two other sisters formed a band to sing in the seemingly disparate genres of gospel and commercial jingles, and she started to work on her songwriting in high school. However, Stella got pregnant and then married before graduation, which put her music career on hold until the 1970s. Her biggest hit was 1975's I Want to Hold You in My Dreams Tonight, which peaked at no. 9 on the Billboard Country Singles Charts. She continued to record until 1989, although she spent most of the 1980s in touring productions of Broadway musicals (including The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, which starred her sister Dolly in the 1982 adaptation). She's also written and choreographed shows for her sister's Dollywood theme park and published a Southern cookbook. Lightly creased. Fine condition.
