GERALD R. FORD, JIMMY CARTER, NEIL ARMSTRONG and ALAN JAY LERNER
Gerald R. Ford, Jimmy Cart, Neil Armstrong, and Alan Jay Lerner sign a color publicity photograph.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Bill -/Regards/Alan Jay Lerner", "Jimmy Carter", "Best wishes to/Mr. W. Godward -/Neil Armstrong" and "To W. Godward, Esq./with warmest 'best' wishes/Gerald R. Ford". Color, 8x10. Each has signed by an original pen and ink sketch of each signer that has been drawn on the photograph which depicts a 48-star U.S. flag on a flagpole next to a cannon, with a building in the distance. Long-time Michigan Congressman GERALD R. FORD (1913-2006) was the only man to hold both the offices of Vice President (December 6, 1973-August 9, 1974) and President (August 9, 1974-January 20, 1977) without being elected to either. He also holds the record as the longest-lived former U.S. President. JIMMY CARTER (born in 1924), who succeeded Ford as 39th President of the U.S. (1977-1981), won the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize for his diplomatic efforts both during and after his presidency. NEIL ARMSTRONG (born in 1930), one of NASA's first civilian astronauts, was the first man to walk on the Moon, stepping out onto the lunar surface on July 20, 1969 while commander of the Apollo 11 mission. ALAN JAY LERNER (1918-1986), the composer of lyrics to such Broadway musicals as Brigadoon, Paint Your Wagon, My Fair Lady and Camelot, won the 1964 Tony Award for Best Score for Gigi and Academy Awards for Gigi (Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Song, 1958) and An American in Paris (Best Story and Screenplay, 1951). Lightly creased at lower left background. Fine condition.
