 Seven pioneers of the electronics revolution sign a First Day Cover celebrating progress in their field.
 First Day Cover signed: "J S Kilby", "William A. Higinbotham", "Bob Moog", "Marvin Camras", "Donald S. Banks", "George Heilmeier" and "David H. Ahl", 6½x3½. First Day Ccover honoring Progress in Electronics, 11-cent stamp affixed, postmarked New York, New York, July 10, 1973, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Cachet pictures Lee DeForest. In 1958, KILBY invented at Texas Instruments a monolithic integrated circuit that he called a "microchip" (patent #3,138,743). He also developed the first pocket calculator, "Pocketronic". One of over 60 inventions Kilby patented, the microchip made high-speed computing and communication systems possible. Kilby was awarded the 2000 Nobel Prize in Physics "for his part in the invention of the integrated circuit". HIGINBOTHAM developed the first video game at Brookhaven Laboratories in 1958. It was very similar to the game later known as "pong", but Higinbotham neither patented nor commercially exploited this breakthrough. MOOG invented the Moog Synthesizer in 1964 in order to generate new sounds electronically. His invention, made affordable by progress in electronic miniaturization, has generated entire new genres of music, such as New Age and Techno. CAMRAS (1916-1995), a pioneer in the field of magnetic recording, played a key role in developing multi-track tape recording, stereophonic sound reproduction, and magnetic sound for motion pictures and VCRs. HEILMEIER made pioneering contributions to liquid crystal display technology. He is a former head of the Defense Advance Research Projects Agency (DARPA). AHL, an electronics engineer and free lance writer, founded Creative Computing magazine and wrote Basic Computer Games, the first book in its field to sell a million copies. BANKS is a computer graphics professional who works for the 3M Company. Fine condition.
