Also signed: "Edward Saml Walker" and witnessed by: "Francis Parole". Walker has purchased from Rothschild 100 shares of the Alliance British and Foreign Life and Fire Assurance Company for £1,900. Nathan's father Mayer had founded a money-lending business in Frankfurt and was the agent of the British government in subsidizing European sovereigns during the Napoléonic Wars. NATHAN MAYER ROTHSCHILD founded a branch at London; other sons founded branches in Vienna, Naples and Paris. Nathan's son Lionel was elected to Parliament but was not allowed to take his seat because he was Jewish. Lionel's son, Sir Nathan Mayer Rothschild, 1st Baron Rothschild, was the first Jew admitted to the House of Lords. His son, 2nd Baron Rothschild, received the Balfour Declaration in 1917. Documents bearing the signature of Nathan Mayer Rothschild are extremely desirable. Browned at right margin with pinhead-size file holes. Lightly soiled. Overall, fine condition.
