B/w, 7¼x4¾. Informal photograph of all the Soviet Vostok cosmonauts, the first six Russians in space, each flying solo. YURI GAGARIN (1934-1968) piloting Vostok 1 (April 12, 1961), was the first man in space, orbiting for one hour and 48 minutes. GHERMAN TITOV (1935-2000), piloting Vostok 2 (August 6-7, 1961), orbited the Earth 17 times, spending 25 hours and 18 minutes in space. ANDRIAN NIKOLAYEV (1929-2004), piloting Vostok 3 (August 11-15, 1962), made 64 orbits in 94 hours and 24 minutes. PAVEL POPOVICH (Vostok 4, August 12-15, 1962) orbited 48 times (70 hours and 57 minutes) in a dual launch with Vostok 3. VALERY BYKOVSKY (Vostok 5, June 14-19, 1963) made 81 orbits in 119 hours and 6 minutes). VALENTINA TERESHKOVA (Vostok 6, June 16-19, 1963) was the first woman in space, orbiting the Earth 48 times (70 hours and 50 minutes) and passing within three miles of Vostok 5. Married in 1963, cosmonauts Nikolayev and Tereshkova divorced in 1980. The first multi-crew of three people was aboard Russia's next launch, Voshkod 1, in 1964.
