He lowered the Stars and Bars and raised the Stars and Stripes over the Confederate capitol building.
Carte-de-Visite Inscribed photograph signed on verso: "To/Bvt Major J.B. Campbell/4th Artillery/USA/Yours sincerely/Loomis L. Langdon/1st Artillery/Bvt Lt Col/USA/Dec 17th 1865/Brownsville Texas". Sepia, 2½x41/8 overall, image 2x3½ (two surfaces). Photographer's imprint on verso of Moses & Piffet of New Orleans. Loomis was one of the two soldiers who lowered the Confederate flag and raised the American flag over the Confederate Capitol building in Richmond on April 3, 1865. Years later, he was the jailer of Geronimo. Lightly soiled on front. Remnant from missing revenue stamp on verso, lightly smudged by date. Overall, fine condition.
