JEFFERSON AIRPLANE: GRACE SLICK, MARTY BALIN, PAUL KANTNER, JORMA KAUKONEN, JACK CASADY, SPENCER DRYDEN
This large 15x10 b/w glossy photo is a band photo of the legendary 1960s band Jefferson Airplane performing on a TV studio set. It is signed by six members of the band, including frontwoman Grace Slick and founders Marty Balin and Paul Kantner.
Photograph signed "Marty/Balin", "Spencer Dryden", "Jack Casady", "Paul/Kantner" and "Grace/Slick" in blue ink and "Jorma Kaukonen" in silver ink. B/w, 14¾x9¾. Singer/songwriter/guitarist BALIN, born Martyn Jerel Buchwald in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1942, co-founded Jefferson Airplane with singer/rhythm guitarist KANTNER, born in San Francisco, California in 1942, in 1965. Guitarist, singer and songwriter KAUKONEN, born in Washington, DC in 1940, was another early member of the group, and the one who urged his friend, bassist CASADY, born in Washington, DC in 1944, to try out for Airplane. SLICK, born Grace Barnett Wing in Evanston, Illinois in 1939, was the lead singer for the rock group Jefferson Airplane from 1967 to1973 and its successor Jefferson Starship (1974-1988), releasing four well-received solo albums in between tours and recordings with the groups. DRYDEN (1938-2005, born in New York City) played drums with Jefferson Airplane during its peak years of 1966 to 1970. Jefferson Airplane's biggest hits include Somebody to Love and White Rabbit, both off the 1967 album Surrealistic Pillow. Although Jefferson Airplane disbanded in 1973, Kaukonen and Casady formed a spin-off group, Hot Tuna, in 1970, and both participated in the Jefferson Airplane reunion in 1989. Balin left the group in 1971, but returned to Jefferson Starship from 1975 to1978. Slick was largely absent from performing after 1990. She published her autobiography, Somebody to Love, in 1998. Errors in negative were reproduced in photo. Otherwise in fine condition.
