YITZHAK RABIN
Signed cover of Time from Dec. 2, 1974 with an illustration of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, captioned "Israel Besieged". Accompanied by a sheet of stationery and a postmark from the Prime Minister's office, both stapled to the cover.
Three items, taped together: 1)
Magazine cover signed "[illegible]/Y. Rabin". Color, 8x10¾. Dec. 2, 1974 cover of Time magazine with illustration of Begin and Israeli map. Captioned: "ISRAEL/BESIEGED/Premier/Yitzhak Rabin ". Lightly toned and creased. Caption is partially covered by taped postmark. Cover was torn neatly from magazine on left. Light chipping near top and bottom edges. Light dent near lower left corner. Irregular right edge. Otherwise in fine condition. 2) Small sheet of white stationery signed "24-12-74" in unknown hand. Captioned: "STATE OF ISRAEL/With the compliments/of the/Prime Minister's Bureau/Israel". With blue-and-white Hebrew air mail label, clipped from envelope and taped to stationery. Lightly toned, otherwise in fine condition. 3) Unsigned Israeli postmark from July 23, 1978. Partial English caption: "Prime Minster's Office/Jerusalem-Israel". Lightly toned. Normal postal stamps. Irregular edges. Otherwise in fine condition. Rabin (1922-1995, born in Jerusalem, Palestine, now Israel) was Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces during the Six-Day War and became, in 1974, the first native-born Prime Minister of Israel. He served until 1977. Becoming Prime Minister again in 1992, Rabin played a key role in peace negotiations between Israel and its Arab neighbors. In 1993, he endorsed a historic peace agreement with the Palestine Liberation Organization, providing for mutual recognition and a transition to Palestinian self-rule in the Gaza Strip and West Bank. Rabin, along with his Foreign Minister, Shimon Peres, and P.L.O. leader Yasir Arafat, shared the 1994 Nobel Peace Prize. In 1994, Rabin signed a peace treaty with Jordan and a 1995 agreement with the PLO expanded Palestinian self-rule. On November 4, 1995, Rabin was assassinated by an Israeli law student with links to right-wing extremist groups.
