
MIKLÓS RÓZSA
Academy Award winner inscribes musical quotation to a fan

Hungarian-born violinist and composer MIKLÓS RÓZSA (1907-1995)
wrote a number of works for orchestra and solo instruments, including his
Violin Concerto, op. 24 (1953-1954), which he wrote for violinist
Jascha Heifetz, but he is best known for his notable film scores.
Rózsa won Academy Awards for his scores for Spellbound (1945),
A Double Life (1947) and Ben-Hur (1959), and he was nominated
for Oscars for The Thief of Bagdad (1940), Lydia (1941),
Sundown (1941), The Jungle Book (1942), Double Indemnity
(1944), The Woman of the Town (1944), The Lost Weekend (1945),
A Song to Remember (1945), The Killers (1946), Quo Vadis?
(1951), Ivanhoe (1952), Julius Caesar (1953) and El Cid
(1961, also nominated for Best Song) as well as receiving Golden Globe
nominations for Ivanhoe, El Cid and King of Kings
(1961). Rózsa also conducted the scores for a number of films, and he
wrote the theme for the TV show, Dragnet (1951-1959). His other
works include one ballet, Hungaria, as well as acclaimed
choral compositions and a biography, A Double Life. Lightly creased.
