JACKIE SMITH - PHOTOGRAPH SIGNED
JACKIE SMITH
The Hall of Fame tight end for the St. Louis Cardinals is shown diving towards the end zone.
Photograph signed: "Jackie Smith/HOF 94", Color 8x10. Jackie Larue Smith was born on February 23, 1940. He was one of the greatest tight ends of his time, playing for the St. Louis Cardinals from 1963-1977 and a final year for the Dallas Cowboys in 1978. During his football career he had seven different seasons with 40+ catches. When he retired he led all other tight end receivers with 480 receptions, 7918 yards and 40 touchdowns. His only Super Bowl appearance was with the Cowboys in his final season. Unfortunately he went down in infamy as he committed one of the more memorable errors in Super Bowl History, by dropping a pass from Roger Staubach in the end zone on third down. Leaving the Cowboys to settle for a field goal, they lost the game 35-31 by the four points Smith failed to catch. The pass was listed as #24 on ESPN's list of "100 Greatest Super Bowl moments". In 1994 he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Fine condition.
