BLANCHE BARROW - PHOTOGRAPH SIGNED 1934 - DOCUMENT 314530

BLANCHE BARROW
Taken from her own personal photo collection, the infamous wife of "Buck Barrow" of the Barrow/Bonnie and Clyde gang is shown in this 2¾x4½ image wearing a wide cuffed white dress, looking narrowly at the camera. The picture, dated 1934, was taken 3 years after marrying her husband and presumably during her prison sentence
Photograph signed: "B.B. 1934", in blue ink, Sepia toned 2¾x4½. Blanche Barrow (1911-1988) was the wife of Marvin "Buck" Barrow, and the sister-in-law of Clyde Barrow of the infamous Bonnie and Clyde gang. She met Buck Barrow in 1929, while he was a fugitive and she was hiding from her abusive first husband. Buck escaped from the Ferguson Prison Farm in Texas in 1930, and married Blanche on July 3, 1931, joining the Clyde Barrow/Bonnie Parker gang in their infamous crime spree soon after. Although Blanche never fired a gun, she helped pull several lethal robberies, and would later stand trial and serve time for the attempted murder of a sheriff, proving herself just as villainous as the rest of the gang. On July 24, 1933, Buck and Blanche were captured, and Buck died of gunshot wounds five days later. (Bonnie and Clyde remained on the loose for another year, before dying in a gun battle of their own on May 23, 1934.) Blanche Barrow served six years of a 10-year sentence for armed robbery, having convinced authorities (falsely) that she didn't know of Buck's criminal record when she married him. In 1967, a film was made portraying the history of Bonnie and Clyde, thusly named Bonnie and Clyde, with Barrow being portrayed by Estelle Parsons. Barrow disliked the movie, claiming it made her look like "a screaming horse's ass." She later remarried, and her memoir, Life with Bonnie and Clyde, was published posthumously in 2004. Corners slightly worn. Fine condition.
