JOHN PHILLIPS - AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED
JOHN PHILLIPS
Autograph Letter signed twice by the veteran English actor
Autograph Letter signed twice: "John Phillips". 1 page, 7x9. No place, no date. To Mr. Todd Axelrod, American Museum of Historical Documents, Las Vegas. Signed at top and bottom. In full: "An actor who is not a household word can hardly resist your promise to immortalize him, or rather preserve him in the deep freeze of your archives. I am therefore sending you some mementoes of an acting career now within reach of a half century. The programme of The Wild Duck contains some details of my life in the theatre. The photographs seem deadly serious. As I am a farceur at heart I enclose as a makeweight a First Night Greeting which I designed for a performance of The Magistrate in which I played the lead for Bristol Old Vic in 1982." [Items mentioned are not included.] Phillips is a British character player, active in films from 1954. He has been seen in such roles as the Duke of Norfolk in Olivier's Richard III (1954), as authority figures in the sci-fi movies Village of the Damned (1960) and Man in the Moon (1961) and as the prosecutor at the Esterhazy trial in I Accuse (1958). Phillips has also shown up in several TV miniseries (Jesus of Nazareth, Masada), and was cast as MacGown in the internationally syndicated The Forsyte Saga. Fine condition.
