I.W. ABEL. Commemorative Envelope signed: "I.W. Abel", 6½x3½. Envelope honoring Franklin D. Roosevelt, 13-cent Connecticut Bicentennial stamp affixed, postmarked Warm Springs, GA, April 12, 1976 (the 31st anniversary of FDR's death). Iorwith Wilbur Abel (1908-1987), a founder of the United Steelworkers of America and the union's Secretary-Treasurer (1953-1965) and third President (1965-1977), established a strike fund of more than $85 million and signed the historic no-strike agreement to end stockpiling. He was elected a Vice President of the AFL-CIO in 1965. Ink smudged at upper loop of the "A". Slightly creased. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso, light show through to blank margin. Fine condition.
