Stray ink mark at lower right corner. Covered in plastic taped to back of
cardboard. Overall, fine condition. Accompanied by newspaper photograph,
unsigned. B/w, 3¾x5¾, affixed to 4¼x6¼ cardboard (two surfaces). Name imprinted
at lower margin. ½-inch tear at lower right margin, which has minor paper loss
(touching suit). Tape remnant and stain at upper portion. Minor glue stain at
lower left margin of front. Overall, fine condition. With newspaper
article, unsigned, relating to Finney receiving an honorary degree of doctor of
laws at the commencement exercises at Harvard University. Affixed to cardboard
of slightly larger size. Glue stains at upper and lower blank margins and on
verso (no show through). J.M.T. Finney, a graduate of the Harvard Medical
School, was a Professor of Clinical Surgery at Johns Hopkins Medical
School, and he also practiced there and in a surgical practice with his father.
During WWI, he had served with the American Expeditionary Forces and was
awarded the Distinguished Service Medal, the French Legion of Honor and
Belgium's L'Ordre de la Couronne. Finney, who was the first President of the
American College of Surgeons, published his autobiography, A
Surgeon's Life: The Autobiography of J.M.T. Finney, in 1940. Three
