The New York Congressman pens this note on a personalized Congressional card to New York Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan to let him know that he was "a real 'mensch'", Yiddish for a good egg. Obtained directly from Moynihan's estate!

Autograph Note signed: "Jack" in blue ink. One page. 7x4½. On imprinted card. No place, no date. To "Pat" [Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan]. In full: "Pat/thanks! You/re a real 'mensch'/Jack." in blue ink. Jack French Kemp (1935-2009) was an American Republican politician, collegiate and professional football player. He served as Housing Secretary in the administration of President George H. W. Bush from 1989 to 1993, having previously served nine terms as a congressman for Western New York's 31st congressional district from 1971 to 1989. He was the Republican Party's nominee for Vice President in the 1996 election, where he was running mate of presidential nominee Bob Dole; Kemp had previously contended for the presidential nomination in the 1988 Republican primaries. Jack Kemp was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009 by President Barack Obama. Daniel Patrick Moynihan (1927-2003). Moynihan served four terms in the U.S. Senate (1977-2001) as a Democrat representing New York. A prolific author, Moynihan held positions in the administrations of four Presidents: Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford. Slightly soiled. Ink note (unknown hand) and number stamp in at top edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
