JAMES A. FARLEY - TYPED LETTER SIGNED 01/02/1942 - DOCUMENT 225329

JAMES A. FARLEY. TLS: "J.A. Farley", 1p, 8½x11. New York City, 1942 January 2. On his personal imprinted letterhead to Mr. Seymour Wishnefsky, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In full: "Thank you for your letter of December twenty-seventh. I am very happy to send you under separate cover an autographed photograph for your collection which, I am sure, must be a very interesting one. With best wishes for the new year, Sincerely yours,". At the time he signed this letter, Farley was Chairman of the Democratic Party in New York state and an executive with the Coca-Cola Export Corporation. James Aloysius Farley (1888-1976) was Chairman of the Democratic National Committee (1932-1940) and Postmaster General (1933-1940) under Franklin D. Roosevelt, whose presidential campaigns he had managed in 1932 and 1936. He held both posts until disagreeing with FDR about running for a third term in 1940, leading to his resigning from both positions that year (Farley remained Chairman of the Democratic Party in New York state, a position in which he served from 1930-1944). After leaving FDR's administration, Farley served as Chairman of the Board of the Coca-Cola Export Corporation of New York until his retirement in 1973. Lightly creased with folds, lower horizontal fold at the upper loops of the "J", "A", "F" and "l" and upper flourish of the "y". Nicked at blank right margin at upper horizontal fold. Fine condition.
