JAMES A. FARLEY - TYPED LETTER SIGNED 04/10/1972 - DOCUMENT 312338

JAMES A. FARLEY
The businessman and politician writes a letter to an associate, discussing plans for a future book, including his idea to include stories of President Roosevelt and his family
Typed letter signed: "James A Farley", in green ink, 1 page, 8x10¼. April 10, 1972. New York City, New York. In part: "I fully explained to them what I have in mind for the book. I shall, of course, relate incidents in connection with Mrs. Roosevelt, the President and others members of the family, which I think would be of interest to the readers. It is my opinion that the story I have in mind would be of interest not only to readers but also historians of this generations and those of other days". James Aloysius Farley (1888-1976) was Chairman of the Democratic National Committee (1932-1940) and Postmaster General (1933-1940) under Franklin D. Roosevelt, whose presidential campaigns he had managed in 1932 and 1936. He held both posts until disagreeing with FDR about running for a third term in 1940, leading to his resigning from both positions that year (Farley remained Chairman of the Democratic Party in New York state, a position in which he served from 1930-1944). After leaving FDR's administration, Farley served as Chairman of the Board of the Coca-Cola Export Corporation of New York until his retirement in 1973. Hole in top left corner. Fine condition.
