James A. Gray signs a card.
Signature: "yours very truly/Jas A. Gary/May 21-97 PMG" as Postmaster General, 4¼x2¾. Framed below an engraving (b/w, 7x8) of Gary and above an old newspaper photo (b/w, 6½x5) of Gary's home in Catonsville, Maryland, to an overall size of 13x23. James A. Gary (1833-1920) was U.S. Postmaster General (1897-1898) under President McKinley. A member of the Maryland Republican State Committee (1880-1896), Gary was his party's (unsuccessful) candidate for Governor in 1879. Photo is grainy. Fine condition. Framed, not in Gallery of History style. Not reviewed by us for conservation integrity. "As is" framing purchase.
