Signature of the first Arab-American elected to the US Senate
Signature: "James Abourezk/South Dakota", 3½x2 card. James Abourezk, a Democrat from South Dakota, served one term in the US House (1971-1973) before becoming the first-ever Arab-American in the US Senate (1973-1979). (His parents were Lebanese Christians.) As Senator, he was outspoken on issues affecting American Indians, chairing the Senate Select Committee on Indian Affairs. Abourezk did not seek re-election. As a private citizen, Abourezk has been highly critical of Israel and of US support for Israel. Fine condition.
