Ink signature on a small card with typed caption, affixed to a page with a newpaper article about him titled, "'Big Jim' - Ike's Labor Man"
Signature: "James P. Mitchell", 5½ x 2½ card with typed caption. Affixed to 7¾ x 10 page with newspaper photo and article titled, "'Big Jim' - Ike's Labor Man". James Paul Mitchell (1900-1964) was Director of Industrial Personnel for the War Department during World War II, continuing to work on Army labor relations through the Korean War. He was Secretary of Labor in the Eisenhower administration (1953-1961), where his emphasis on employment discrimination and the status of migrant workers earned him the nickname "social conscience of the Republican Party." He lost a close race for Governor of New Jersey in 1961. Soiled on card and page. Creased throughout. Otherwise fine condition.
