JAMES M. CARLISLE
The U.S. Congressman from Kentucky signs his name in black ink
Signature: "J.M. Carlisle" in black ink. 7x2 clipping. John G. Carlisle (1834-1910) represented Kentucky in the House of Representatives as a Democrat from 1877-1890, serving as Speaker of the House from 1883-1889. He was U.S. Senator from 1890 to 1893, when he was appointed Secretary of the Treasury by President Cleveland. Carlisle was noted for his sound money policy and tariff reform and served during Cleveland's entire second term. Irregularly cut. Left edge frayed. Toned. Small pinpoint stains throughout. Otherwise, fine condition.
