GEORGE ROSS
George Ross signs a manuscript document.
Manuscript DS: "George Ross" as Vice President of the Council, 1p, 7¾x6½. Philadelphia, 1790 September 6. The son and namesake of the Signer of the Declaration of Independence writes to Christian Febiger, Treasurer. In full: "Pay to John Smilie Esquire or order the Sum of fifteen pounds being the amount of his account for attendance in Council 20 days between the 20th of November and 15th of December 1787. Signed "Ent John Dormaldson/Reg Gov Office/", Signed "Entd Jno Nicholson" vertically in left margin. Nicholson was involved with Robert Morris in western land speculations. Endorsed: "John Smilie" on verso. Signed the year Pennsylvania adopted a new state constitution. Browned at folds, two cancellations do not touch signatures, else fine.
