Signature from the Secretary of Commerce under President Lyndon Baines Johnson
Signature: "John T. Connor" in blue ink. 3¼x2 card. Typed caption: "U. S. SECRETARY OF COMMERCE/1965-1967". Connor (1914-2000) was Secretary of Commerce (1965-1967) under President Lyndon Baines Johnson. A former president of Merck Pharmaceuticals and a Marine who dealt with the procurement of penicillin during World War II, he was co-chairman of Johnson's1964 presidential campaign. Connor helped to settle two strikes during his term - a 1965 East Coast dock strike in and a 1966 General Electric strike. He resigned due to disagreements with Johnson's management style. In the early 1970s, Connor headed the Committee of Business Executives against the Vietnam War. Lightly toned. Lightly creased top corners. Impression near top right corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
