Merrett" and "Nathan Bowen". Bowen, a Notary Public and Justice of the Peace, certifies that Mansfield, an orderly sergeant in the 40th Regiment in the War of 1812 and now a silversmith, and Merrett, a private in the same company and now a laborer, have signed this document stating they are acquainted with the handwriting of Amos Stocker, also in the 40th Regiment, and that his signature appears on a land patent which had been attached to this document (not present). Fragile. Toned. Folds, shaded at folds. Vertical fold touches "fi" in Mansfield. Lightly stained, nailhead-size one just touches the "f" in Mansfield. 1-inch separation at blank lower horizontal fold. ¼-inch separation at upper horizontal fold touching 1 word (intact).
