KEITH F. ADAMSON. Philatelic Envelope signed: "Keith F. Adamson/Col. U.S. Army", 6x3½. On verso: "Susan H. Adamson (Mrs. K. F.)". Block of four 3-cent U.S. Army stamps affixed, postmarked New York, October 30, 1945. Typed on envelope by collector: "(Atomic Bomb Projecc.)/(World-war II,1939)./Colonel Keith F. Adamson,/Project of Atomic Bomb,/Washington, D.C.". In October 1939, as he had promised Albert Einstein, President Roosevelt established the Uranium Committee, which met for the first time on October 21st. Lieutenant Colonel Keith F. Adamson was the Army Representative. In attendance were Adamson, Lyman J. Briggs (Director, Bureau of Standards), Briggs' assistant, Cdr. Gilbert C. Hoover for the Navy, Alexander Sachs, Leo Szilard, Eugene Wigner, Edward Teller and Richard Roberts. Teller represented Enrico Fermi who refused to attend because of a dispute with the Navy Dept. A little more than a week later, on November 1st, the Uranium Committee issued a report to President Roosevelt, stating among other things: "If the reaction turns out to be explosive in character, it would provide a possible source of bombs with a destructiveness vastly greater than anything now known" and "we recommend adequate support for a thorough investigation". Fine condition.
