Signed autograph quotation from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, a play Barrett performed to much acclaim
Autograph Quotation signed: "'Old Cassius still'/Yours truly/Lawrence Barrett/'86", 4½x3½ card. Lawrence Barrett (1838-1891) made his stage debut in 1853, performing in Detroit, New York and Boston before serving as a captain in the 28th Massachusetts Infantry during the Civil War. He moved to San Francisco after the war, managing a theater while continuing to act. Barrett played most of the major Shakespearean roles, and wrote biographies of fellow actors Edwin Forrest and Edwin Booth (with whom he often shared the stage). Barrett and Booth first performed Julius Caesar together in New York in 1875, with Booth as Cassius and Barrett as Brutus. Lightly toned. Unknown residue around edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
