First day cover signed "Luther H Hodges". 6½x3½. First day cover for the 5¢ Carolina Charter tricentennial stamp. Postmarked Edenton, North Carolina, April 6, 1963. Addressed to A. S. Hodges, Headland, Alabama. One 5¢ red-and-white Carolina Charter tricentennial stamp affixed. FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Typed caption: "Autograph of:/Luther H. Hodges of North Carolina,/Secretary of Commerce, 1961- .". Governor of North Carolina from 1954 to 1961, Hodges (1898-1974) served as Secretary of Commerce under Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Baines Johnson from 1961 to 1965. Lightly toned and creased. Signature touches typed caption. Envelope is open and empty. Otherwise in fine condition.
