His signature as commanding officer of the 7th New York National Guard, on a ticket for a regimental parade
Ticket signed: "Daniel Appleton/Colonel", 4½x2. Ticket for a review and parade by the 7th New York National Guard Regiment in honor of the Regiment's expert riflemen, March 5, 1902. Regimental vignette printed on verso. Daniel Appleton (1852-1929) was a lifelong employee of Appleton and Company, the publishing firm founded by his grandfather and namesake Daniel Appleton (1785-1849). While rising to Vice President and General Manager of Appleton, he also served from 1871 in the 7th Regiment, New York National Guard, rising from private to colonel. He commanded the Regiment from 1889 to 1916, turning down further promotions in order to remain with the unit. Worn. Otherwise, fine condition.
