MAJOR GENERAL FRANKLIN DAVENPORT - MANUSCRIPT LETTER SIGNED 12/04/1813 - HFSID 43429

 
FRANKLIN DAVENPORT. Manuscript LS: "Frk Davenport", 1p, 8x13. Woodbury, 1813 December 4. In part: "It was not until yesterday I received your favour of the 25th Novr covering a Mortgage bond...from Mary Wilson to the late John Kaighn for eighteen hundred & twenty seven dollars 37/100 - dated 30 April 1805 payable with interest...." Verso addressed to Benjamin R. Morgan, Counsellor at Law, Philadelphia. In the Revolutionary War, FRANKLIN DAVENPORT (1755-1832), Benjamin Franklin's nephew, enlisted as a private in the New Jersey Militia, later becoming brigade major and brigade quartermaster. He was appointed Colonel in the New Jersey Militia in 1779 and subsequently Major General, which rank he held until his death. Davenport was a Colonel in the New Jersey Line during the Whiskey Insurrection of 1794 and marched with the troops to Pittsburgh. Folds touch signature. Lightly creased. Docket on verso touches 4 words and "t" of Davenport. Red wax seal remnant with minor tear at blank portion. Overall, fine condition.
