MAJOR GENERAL HENRY DEARBORN - DOCUMENT SIGNED 11/30/1810 - HFSID 265838

 
HENRY DEARBORN. Partly Printed DS: "H. Dearborn/Collector", Port of Boston, 1p, 6¾x8¼. Boston, 1810 November 30. Certification that the Schooner Kuthy of Boston has surrendered at this office a Certificate of Registry granted by the Collector of Customs for Baltimore. Henry Dearborn (1751-1829) served in the Revolutionary War and was a colonel on General George Washington's staff at Yorktown (1781). A member of Congress from 1793-1797, Dearborn was Jefferson's Secretary of War (1801-1809). He was appointed by President Madison to replace Benjamin Lincoln as the second Collector of the Port of Boston. He left that position to fight as a major general in the War of 1812. Left and right edges frayed. 1x1-inch segment in upper left corner is torn with no paper loss but with only ¼-inch segment still connecting it to document. Otherwise, fine condition.
