MAJOR GENERAL JACOB D. COX - AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED 04/03/1894 - DOCUMENT 174723

 
JACOB D. COX. ALS: "J.D. Cox", 1p, 8x10. Cincinnati, 1894 April 3. To General E.A. Carman. In full: "I take sincere pleasure in following the suggestion of yours of 2d, & in enclosing a letter to the Secretary of War, recommending the addition of yourself to the Antietam Com- mission." Canadian-born JACOB D. COX (1828-1900) served in the Union Army during the Civil War then as Governor of Ohio (1866-1868) and Grant's Secretary of the Interior (1869-1870). He has written this letter as Dean of the Faculty, Law School of the Cincinnati College (1881-1897). EZRA AYRES CARMAN (1834-1909) fought in the Civil War and was wounded at Williamsburg (1862). He served on the Antietam Commission known as the Antietam Battlefield Board from 1894-1898 and he was acknowledged as the leading authority on that battle. Slightly shaded margins. Folds, not at signature. Overall, fine condition.
