MAJOR GENERAL JAMES CLINTON - SIGNATURE(S) - HFSID 268096

 
JAMES CLINTON. Signature: "James Clinton B. Gen", 3x¾, affixed to 3¼x¾ card. James Clinton, brother of Vice President George Clinton and father of New York Governor DeWitt Clinton, fought in the French and Indian War, participating in the capture of Fort Frontenac. During the American Revolution, he took part in the expedition to Quebec (1775) and in the successful effort to prevent British General Henry Clinton from rescuing General Burgoyne at Saratoga (1777). He commanded a brigade in the siege of Yorktown (1781). Lightly soiled. Mounting adhesive shows through at left and right edges, touching "J" of signature. Overall, fine condition.
