Handwritten note by the Alabama Senator, writing about The Lord's Prayer
Autograph Note signed: "Mr. Friseat-/The 'saying' which guides me is: 'They Will Be Done'--part of the Lord's/Prayer. It was very hard for me to/ accept, but I have. Thank you for/writing./Maryon Allen/2-16-79 ", 6x4½. Dated in 1979. Maryon Pittman Allen (b.1925) is an American journalist who served as Senator from Alabama for five months in 1978 following the death of her husband, Senator James B. Allen. She was only one of two women in the Senate; the other woman being Muriel Humphrey, who also filled the vacant seat left by her husband Hubert Humphrey. Allen is also known for her writings while undergoing treatment for Tuberculosis, articles which were published in the daily Alabama newspapers. She wrote the syndicated column, "The Reflections of a News Hen" which won the Alabama Press Association award for "best original column". Lightly toned. Fine condition.
