The winner of the 1964 Nobel Prize in Physics signs a typed 1962 letter, forwarding a conference paper for inclusion in a journal.
TLS: "N.G. Basov" (Cyrillic signature), 1 page, 8¼x10¼. Academy of Sciences of the USSR, P.N. Lebedev Physical Institute, Moscow, 1962 June 1. Letter in English to Prof. J.N. Howard, Optical Society of America, Washington, D.C. In full: "We send you enclosed a report [not present] delivered at the conference of the Optical Society of America in March 1962. for the publication in your journal." N.G. Basov (1922-2001) shared the 1964 Nobel Prize in Physics "for fundamental work in the field of quantum electronics, which has led to the construction of oscillators and amplifiers based on the maser-laser principle". Fragile and worn. Nicked edges. Staple holes at upper left. Shaded blank margins. Pencil notes (unknown hand) and receipt stamp in blank areas.
