NORMAN E. BORLAUG
Nobel Peace Prize winner Norman Borlaug, the Father of the Green
Revolution, signed this short questionnaire and printed answers to three
Questionnaire signed: "Norman E. Borlaug", with name printed
"Norman E Borlaug" below signature. Black ink notations in unknown hand
and label on verso. 1 page, 6½x3¾ printed card. Borlaug printed responses to a
series of printed questions on this card. He wrote that he was born in
"Cresco, Iowa USA on March 25, 1914", that the world needs more
"schools, food, jobs (employment)/- less conflict and war" and that he
was noted for "Green Revolution in Third World/- My work on increasing
food production -". He didn't fill out anything on the line captioned "A
person that I admire is...". American agricultural scientist Borlaug
(1914-2009) was raised on an Iowa farm, so it seems appropriate for him to
be awarded the 1970 Nobel Peace Prize for his role in developing high-yield,
disease resistant grains that increased food production in developing countries.
These efforts earned him the title "Father of the Green Revolution".
Without these breakthroughs, the massive famines predicted for the late
twentieth century certainly would have occurred. Because of this, it's
been said that Borlaug saved more lives than any person who ever lived.
Incidentally, only 5 people have won the "trifecta" of a Nobel Prize, a
Presidential Medal of Freedom (1977) and a Congressional Gold Medal
(2006). You may have heard of the other four: Martin Luther King, Jr.,
Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela and Elie Wiesel. Signature is cut off at bottom.
Printed, but not signature, is shaky. Otherwise in fine
