OVETA CULP HOBBY. Signature: "Oveta Culp Hobby" on verso of postcard, 5x3. 2-cent imprinted postal card, postmarked Houston, Texas, August 9, 1955. Typed address to a recipient in Topeka, Kansas. Hobby's name typed beneath signature. Oveta Culp Hobby (1905-1995) served in President Eisenhower's Cabinet as the first Secretary of Health, Education and Welfare (1953-1955). The Editor and President of the Houston "Post" from 1938-1942 and 1955-1983, she had helped develop the Women's Army Corps (WACs), serving as its Director from 1942-1945. Postmark markings on signature side. Ink notes and date (unknown hand) at upper margin on front. Fine condition.
