PAUL CRUTZEN. Philatelic Envelope signed: "Paul Crutzen", 6½x3½. First Day Cover observing the Internationl Year of Disabled Persons, postmarked Milford, Michigan, June 21, 1981, 18-cent stamp affixed, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Dutch scientist Crutzen (b. 1933) studies atmospheric effect on climate at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry, Mainz, Germany. He received a Nobel Prize in Chemistry (1995), along with Mario Molina and F. Sherwood Rowland "for their work in atmospheric chemistry particularly concerning the formation and decomposition of ozone." Because ozone absorbs a high percentage of the sun's ultraviolet light, understanding and preserving its protective layer is vital to life on Earth. Fine condition.
