In full: "Dear Miss Farrand: Your thoughtfulness during my recent illness
from which, by the way, I am recovering very satisfac-torily, is appreciated
more than I can tell you. Barry and the entire family join me in extending you
best wishes for the New Year. Sincerely,". Lightly creased. Folded in half and
unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition. Accompanied by: Original
mailing envelope from Goldwater's personalized stationery. 6x4.
Postmarked Phoenix, Arizona, Dec. 31, 1965. Addressed to Miss Marion E.
Farrand, San Francisco, California. One 5¢ blue-and-white George Washington
stamp affixed. Lightly creased. Envelope is neatly opened with paper loss on
verso and flap (not visible head-on. Normal postal stamps. Otherwise in fine
condition. Peggy Goldwater (1905-1985), born Margaret Johnson, was the
first wife (1934-1985) of Barry Goldwater, U. S. Senator from Arizona
and 1964 Republican presidential candidate. She was also founder of Planned
Parenthood of Central and Northern Arizona.
