First President of Iran, 1980-1981 signs a United Nations philatelic envelope.
Philatelic Envelope signed: "A. Bani Sadr" in English and Farsi to which he has added the date: "29 September 1987", 6½x3½. United Nations First Day Cover bearing 8-cent and 21-cent stamps honoring the U.N. Volunteers Programme. Pictorially postmarked United Nations, New York, May 25, 1973, FIRST DAY OF ISSUE. Bani-Sadr was the first President of the Islamic Republic of Iran from February 4, 1980 to June 22, 1981. On January 20, 1981, his government released 52 American hostages captured during the storming of the U.S. Embassy in Teheran 444 days earlier on November 4, 1979. Pencil note (unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Fine condition.
