When he returned to the United States in 1829, he brought with him a flowering plant that was called the poinsettia in his honor. As Van Buren's Secretary of War from 1837-1841, Poinsett reorganized U.S. military forces and successfully directed the second Seminole War. Folds, vertical fold touches the "s" in James. Lightly creased. Shaded at left edge. Address leaf shows folds, which are slightly shaded and a 2¾x3-inch triangular cut at lower blank margin.
