PRINCE SADRUDDIN AGA KHAN - TYPED SENTIMENT SIGNED - DOCUMENT 284282

SADRUDDIN AGA KHAN
His ink signature beneath a typed sentiment (1957)
Typed Sentiment signed in ink: "With best wishes,/Sadruddin Aga Khan", 6x4 card. Antibes, A. M. [Alpes-Maritimes], France, 1957 April 27. Imprinted family crest in upper left corner. Son of the fabulously wealthy Aga Khan III, spiritual leader of the Ismaili Moslems, Prince Sadruddin was U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (1985-1997) and was considered a potential U.N. Secretary General. (His father had been President of the League of Nations.) In addition to his many diplomatic and humanitarian efforts, Sadruddin Aga Khan was a major collector of Islamic art. His father, the Aga Khan, owned a palatial villa on the Antibes Peninsula, on France's Mediterranean coast. The year 1957 was an important one for this signer. His father died on July 11, and he himself was married on August 27. Prince Sadruddin had just completed three years of post-graduate work at the Harvard Center for Middle Eastern Studies, and was about to commence his nearly 40 years as an international civil servant. Edges ragged. Lightly soiled. Otherwise fine condition.
