The Danish Queen-consort of the United Kingdom signs her name in black ink
Signature: "Alexandra" in brown ink. Clipped page, 8x1½. Queen/Empress-consort of the United Kingdom and India, Alexandra of Denmark (1844-1925) was the wife of King Edward VII. Her family was plucked from noble obscurity in 1863 when her father, Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glucksburg was chosen with the consent of the great powers of Europe to succeed his distant cousin King Frederick VII of Denmark; furthermore, her brother George was elected to be King of the vacant throne in Greece the same year. It was during these ascensions that Alexandra at the age of sixteen was chosen to be the wife of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales, the heir apparent of Queen Victoria. She was Princess of Wales from 1863 to 1901, the longest anyone has ever held that title, and became very popular for her fashion-sense and charity work. Although she often attempted to sway the opinion of her husband's family to favor Greek and Danish interest, she was completely unsuccessful. After the death of Queen Victoria in 1901, Alexandra became Queen consort of the United Kingdom and Empress-consort of India, and later served as the dowager queen as mother of King George V until her own death in 1925. Toned. Irregularly cut. Normal mailing folds. Worn and slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
