RALPH ALBERTAZZIE - TYPED LETTER SIGNED 04/10/1972 - DOCUMENT 333

AIR FORCE ONE: RALPH ALBERTAZZIE
Flew President Nixon on his historic first visit to China.
Typed Letter signed: "Ralph Albertazzi" as Presidential Pilot, 1p, 7¼x10½. "Aboard Air Force One", 1972 April 10. On Air Force One letterhead with imprinted Presidential seal. To Frederick Casoni, Newark, New Jersey. In full: "Thank you for your continued interest in Air Force One. The last time we heard from you was in August 1969. In reply to your inquiry about the wine served at the President's dinner, I am sure it was flown in the People's Republic of China by one of the cargo support aircraft. We did not carry the wine and we did no unofficial flying. I have enclosed an autographed picture of our airplane. [not included] "Most sincerely". Air Force Colonel Ralph D. Albertazzi was President Nixon's pilot. Air Force One is the call sign of any plane carrying the President of the United States. Albertazzie flew the President to China (February 1972) aboard a specially modified Boeing 707, designated Special Air Mission 2600, one of two planes in service for this purpose. SAM 2600's other historic flights included the flight which carried President Kennedy's body home from Dallas on November 22, 1963 and on which President Johnson took the oath of office. Nearly a decade before the popular film Air Force One, about a hijacking of the Presidential jet, Ralph Albertazzi co-authored Hostage One (1989), a novel with the same theme. Light corner creases. Stray ink mark in lower right corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
